Mia Barrios Alvarez

Mia is a seventeen-year-old girl who discovered her passion for writing when she was fourteen. Growing up, she always had trouble speaking her mind, so she turned to writing when it came to expressing her emotions. She would write poems about her life, and in middle school, she wrote an engaging essay titled “Eight Little Things on My Mind” for a homework in English class. Little did she know she would end up presenting her essay in a persuasive competition in Quebec, representing her school. Her teacher encouraged her to keep on writing, and she did. She wrote many other short poems, stories, and thoughts in English, Spanish and a few in French. These caught many people’s eyes. At sixteen, her friend convinced her to write a book, and it was then that she started writing the first notes for this book. By the end of summer on 2024, she had gathered all her thoughts and began with the first draft.
Year after year, she switched schools to explore her surroundings and attended boarding school twice. This helped her open her social circle in a way that would help her write this book. She began meeting people from many countries, learning about different cultures, understanding how teenagers live across the globe, and realizing that even though all her friends came from various backgrounds, the thing they all had in common was that they all had a story to tell and a feeling of wanting to be heard without being judged.
